Metals are used frequently in many industries. They have some properties that are unique and very useful for many applications. Of course, there is their electric conductivity, hardness, robustness but also the high thermal conductivity and diffusivity should be mentioned.
Metals like copper belong to the materials with highest thermal conductivity besides materials like diamond and high conductive alloys. For that reason, there are not many methods that can determine their conductivity precisely. The LFA technique is one of them
The pure metals Copper and Aluminum were measured in this example by a Linseis Laser Flash Analyzer (LFA 1000). The LFA measures the thermal diffusivity, using a combined evaluation model (Dusza).
The measurement results of the two materials are compared with literature values. The measured results vary within 2% of the given literature values, demonstrating the high instrument accuracy and model accuracy in a broad temperature range.
