MINT Day 2023 in Selb

MINT Day opens up new worlds for pupils

The Selb MINT Day 2023 took place on February 14, 2023. The Selb STEM Day is an event that promises all interested 11th grade students from regional high schools an exciting journey into the STEM professions of regional companies. It is traditionally preceded by a fireside evening at the Porzellanikon in Selb, where the young STEM thinkers enter into a dialog with the speaker. This year, it was Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fischerauer from the Faculty of Engineering, Chair of Measurement and Control Technology at the University of Bayreuth, who brought together the topics of ethics and science.

What does STEM actually mean? STEM has become increasingly important in recent years. It is now ubiquitous. The initial word is made up of the first letters of the subjects of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. As these sciences are among the most innovative sectors of the economy, STEM graduates are in demand. No wonder, because Germany, the land of ideas and one of the largest export nations in the world, is dependent on qualified young talent both in research and development and in future management positions.

Here we go: 10 pupils interested in training or studying in the fields of mathematics, IT, natural sciences or technology visited Linseis. After a lecture by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fischerauer in the Rosenthal Theater in Selb, the visitors were given a tour of the individual departments following a company presentation. After a refreshment from Fichtelburger, they continued to one of our laboratories, where they were introduced to the topic of thermal conductivity through experiments and measurements. Finally, they were given an insight into the work of our design department, where the theme of the day was “Electricity from body heat – is that possible?”. So an exciting day with many impressions and suggestions came to an end.
